The Apostle Peter knows that his death is approaching. As a result he wants to reminds us of the fact that he and the other Apostles were eye witnesses of the glory that God bestowed on Jesus. He also wants to remind us that scripture they have been taught is inspired by God. It is not something that man has interpreted on their own and written down, it is inspired by the Holy Spirit.

The Apostle Peter gives instruction to Pastor in this first part of this chapter. Pastor's are not to dominate their congregations, but instead to lead by example. Peter then gives instructions to every Christian. We are to resist the devil and submit to God. We need to remember that the devil is like a roaring lion.
