Many feel that their destiny lies in the hands of that mysterious entity called “Fate”. This is not an accurate view. We need to understand that our destiny is a choice. Fate doesn’t control our destiny. No matter what our physical destiny in life ends up being, as long as, we make choices based on Christ’s leadership and live out our lives based on our citizenship in Heaven, God will use us and our destiny to glorify Him.

American culture is a culture of comfort. It’s being sold to us everywhere we look. We’re encouraged to do what we want, when we want, with whomever we want. If something is uncomfortable, we want to avoid it at all costs. The Christian faith, though, is just that: uncomfortable. As Baptists, we do not observe Lent, but as Christians there are things we can give up that would please the Lord. When Jesus resurrected He showed that death does not have the last word. During December we enjoy the songs of the Christmas Season. Some are funny like, “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” and some are memory filled like “White Christmas”. Then there are the Christmas Songs of our faith. The Christmas Songs that tell the story. Today, we sang “We Three Kings of Orient Are”. The lyrics of this song tell of the story of the Three Wise Men or Three Kings that came bearing gifts for the New King. They were gifts that foretold the new King’s future and of the Spiritual gifts that He would give each believer in return.

As Jesus entered Jerusalem, he not only entered as King on that donkey, but He entered as a willing sacrifice. So to, Isaac, Abraham’s son, went as a willing sacrifice with his father to Mount Moriah. Today, we will look at the foreshadowing of Christ’s willing sacrifice and substitutionary work on the cross in the story of Abraham and Isaac in the book of Genesis. Then we will look at how God calls us to be a living willing sacrifice.

Abel was the first man noted for his faithful act of righteousness. He was also the first martyr, as a result. Sometimes we will be hated for our acts of righteousness. Like Abel, we must trust God enough to give Him our best and God will remember and honor what we have done.

Which does God value more from us…sacrifice or obedience? Many find it easier to give of time, money or goods to God. Sacrifice of these things seems like the best thing to give God. Yet, God values obedience from us more. With obedience, we may suffer. The price may seem too high for some to pay in their relationship with God, but is obedience that is right price to pay God for all He has done for us .
