A fish in a fish bowl sees the world differently than a fish in a rectangular straight sided fish tank. The first fish sees the world outside of its bowl as distorted due to the curvature of the glass. As God’s people our view of the world around us can become distorted, as well. God’s Word will remove the distortion of our world view, if we swim in its unchanging truth.

Kyle Idleman reminded us in his book, “Not a Fan”, that Jesus was never interested in fans. He wanted true followers. To be a true follower we must expect sacrifice and going beyond our comfort zone. We will not be following Jesus for what He gives us. We are not to sit in the stadium and cheer Jesus us on, we are to be down on the field with Jesus running the race. We will be straining our muscles, and striving to win the race. We will immediately follow Him when He calls and we will become fishers of men. We will take up our cross daily as we follow Him. Only with that will we be found worthy to follow Him.

What things do you treasure? Do you treasure time with your family? Do your treasure photos that bring back memories? Do you treasure your car? Do you treasure your home? Have you discovered the true treasure? Have you given everything to obtain that treasure? Moses demonstrated that he understood what the true treasure in life was, when he gave up being Pharaoh’s daughter’s son and living in Egypt. He treasured Christ above all else (Hebrews 11:24-26).

Jesus asked His followers to take up their cross daily. Not occasionally, but daily. Taking up a cross meant sacrifice. Carrying our cross for Christ is evidence of our forsaking all to follow Him. Today, Pastor Terry will take a look at three men who said they would follow Jesus. The question is…did they mean it? The question to ourselves…do we mean it? Is there evidence in your life that reveals your passion to follow Christ? Is there evidence of sacrifice?

In good marriages, the husband and wife will normally know their spouses quite well as time goes by. They are able to sometimes even finish each other’s sentences. They know each other’s desires, dreams and habits. As Christians we are the Bride of Christ and we are called upon to know God’s desires.

God gave us His love in His only begotten Son given as payment for our sins, but that is not where God’s love stops. His love is wider, longer, deeper and higher than we can imagine. The Apostle Paul wanted us rooted and grounded in God’s love. Today, Pastor Terry will help us to know the difference between knowing God’s love and discovering God’s love. We will learn that God is glorified through our love relationship with Him!

The last few weeks we have looked at being devoted to God, worshiping God, and sharing the fruit of God. As a result of being devoted to God and worshiping God, we will also be able to trust God. We can trust in the Lord, because we have grown close to Him through devotion, worship and bearing fruit. We can hear His voice and receive His direction. We can understand His love and know that He is in control and will provide. We can learn to trust in the Lord and not ourselves.

The last few weeks we have looked at being devoted to God and worshiping God. When God is our first love and we spend time in vertical worship with Him throughout the week, we will naturally be changed and gain spiritual fruit. Our walk with the Lord will show our discipleship and glorify God. We will naturally grow fruit and share fruit with others.

Many Christians go to church on Sunday expecting to worship during the Worship Service, but is that what they end up doing? Many church goers are participating in what is called horizontal worship and not vertical worship. Any believer can worship anywhere at any time. A great praise team or preacher can help us get there, but it is not what is really needed. True worship comes from within the believer. This type of worship is what God is seeking. Once a Christian has experienced true worship, then they will naturally experience joy, peace and change.

In the book of Revelation we are told about the new name written on the white stone that we will receive from Jesus. This name will reflect our faithfulness in overcoming the challenges in our lives. Our new name will only be developed through a close relationship with Jesus. What will your new name be? What will your new name show about your relationship with Jesus? Before your new name is carved on your white stone make goals this new year to draw closer to our Lord.
