After many years of bad economy, political and social changes, world instability, terrorism, moral decline, natural disasters, personal, relational and economic problems, and not the least the ever-increasing Christian persecution, we can become weary and discouraged. But through it all, as we look to God, He guides us and provides grace in every given need and situation. For this we are grateful with thankful hearts to God! We can find encouragement from the example of those who went before us and suffered, and by remembering Christ who endured much for us and we will not grow weary or discouraged as a result.

It has been a long political election season. Many of us are tired of the political speeches and news reports. Others are confused about who to vote for or worried about America’s future. Much like how a Captain of a ship places his hand on the tiller and rudder to turn the ship to his desired course, we have the ability to grab the tiller and turn the rudder on our situation here in America. It seems everywhere we look, that darkness is growing in this world. We see darkness spreading in families, schools, our towns, our government and our world. The news is filled with darkness. Jesus came into this world to bring the light and dispel the darkness. He left that light in us to shine out and continue the process of dispelling the darkness.

In Luke, Jesus told us several times that God expects persistency in our prayers. We must persistently ask, knock and seek. As we pray, the key is not believing in an outcome that we want or expect, but rather it is having faith in God, because of His love, His wisdom, His character and ability to do what is right and best in response to our prayer requests and needs. We must have great faith in God, as the persistent widow did. Then wait for God to give us good things in response.

Jesus prefers that we are occupied with Him more than being occupied for Him. He wants us to sit at His feet. He wants us to have communication with Him that allows us to be still and know Him. Jesus taught His disciples how to pray so that they could draw closer to God.

Jesus sent out 70 of His disciples in pairs ahead of His arrival in to the cities and towns of Israel. They were sent to prepare the way, soften hearts, pray and share the good news that the Messiah had arrived. Just as those disciples went out in to their cities, we are called to do the same by our Lord. There are things we can do to begin the process of reaching our cities for God. Pastor Terry will give us some ideas on how we can begin to share the good news and bless our neighbors. (During this message, Carolyn, Pastor Terry’s daughter, gives her testimony of her recent mission trip to the Tenderloin district of San Francisco with her church).

Our last few messages from the book of Luke have revealed Jesus’ power over nature and the powers of darkness. Today, Pastor Terry, will show us how believers or those who put their faith or trust in Jesus will be honored by Jesus either now on Earth or later in Heaven. He will bless with healing now or later. He grants physical and spiritual healing. Jesus in today’s passage will reveal his power over sickness and death.
