Today, we continue our message series on the Beatitudes of Matthew Chapter 5. Our last message series dealt with our union with Christ and what that meant. This message series is meant to take us to the next level in that union with Christ living it out in this world. The life Jesus describes in the “Sermon on the Mount” is impossible for us to accomplish on our own. The Kingdom Life is only possible if we are united to the King. Our union with Christ is the gateway to this new life. As Jesus entered Jerusalem, he not only entered as King on that donkey, but He entered as a willing sacrifice. So to, Isaac, Abraham’s son, went as a willing sacrifice with his father to Mount Moriah. Today, we will look at the foreshadowing of Christ’s willing sacrifice and substitutionary work on the cross in the story of Abraham and Isaac in the book of Genesis. Then we will look at how God calls us to be a living willing sacrifice.

After many years of bad economy, political and social changes, world instability, terrorism, moral decline, natural disasters, personal, relational and economic problems, and not the least the ever-increasing Christian persecution, we can become weary and discouraged. But through it all, as we look to God, He guides us and provides grace in every given need and situation. For this we are grateful with thankful hearts to God! We can find encouragement from the example of those who went before us and suffered, and by remembering Christ who endured much for us and we will not grow weary or discouraged as a result.

Repentance and joy seem like exact opposites. When we think of repentance, we tend to have great sadness or fear or guilt. We wouldn’t normally associate joy with repentance. However, today we will see how we truly can have the joy of repentance!
