We are not only called to “put off the old man” in Ephesians 4: 22-24, but we must be willing also for God to put the branding of shame, sufferings and misunderstanding on our lives, as Jesus did from childhood through the Cross. This too is another phase of holding up the “Banner of Love”!

It is on the mountain tops of spiritual experience with our Lord and Savior, Jesus, that we experience a deeper love for Him as He reveals His love for us. It is easy for us to hold up “The Banner of Love” during the height of spiritual experience with God, but we are challenged in the face of that “roaring lion” who seeks to devour us, to courageously and joyfully hold up that “Banner of Love” for Him!

Adam and Eve lived in the presence of God and His love. Then one day the serpent came along and tempted Eve. At that moment Eve chose to not remain in God’s love and not display her love for God. Next, she gave Adam the fruit. In both instances, Eve’s love became selfish. It became all about her meeting her needs and desires. As oil and water cannot mix, love and selfishness cannot mix.

Loss of income, property, health, family deaths, natural disasters and personal tragedies can be frightening for the Christian, yet we have hope and comfort with Christ. We can feel a sense of being devoured spiritually or physically when bad things happen. The Bible teaches us about “The Devourer” who seeks whom he may devour. In this message we will examine the three things Christians can do to keep from being devoured.

Adam and Eve were given truth by God and did not hunger after it. Instead, they hungered after what they should not have. God allows us to hunger, to teach us about ourselves. Jesus is the Bread of life and He gives us truth that we can live by. What are you hungry for?

Worry is one of the Devil’s diversions to keep us from focusing on God and our purpose in Him. Jesus uses some examples in His creation to teach us not to worry and reveal to us that He cares for us and will provide for our needs.

We can attempt to clean up our act and put our lives in order, but without Jesus to cleanse us permanently, we could end up worse than we were before we tried to straighten up our lives. Through salvation brought by Jesus and keeping His Word, we will be blessed. Our judgement day will end up far better than those who don’t trust Jesus as their Savior.
