Bridges allow us to cross waterways and canyons. They take us from where we are to where we want to go. But a bridge goes both ways. It not only takes us to where we want to go, but it can take us back to where we were. Our lives contain spiritual bridges disguised in physical decisions. Sometimes we come to a spiritual waterway or canyon and we don’t’ know how to cross it. But we can cross that bridge with God’s help in to our better future. #fsbcsermon #fsbccoalinga

In 1972, a Christian movie called, “A Thief in the Night” debuted. It told the story of Patty, who woke up to find out that her husband had been raptured and that she was left behind. She had been short-sighted, before the Rapture. She didn’t join her husband in believing. She did not have clarity of vision in life and did not look forward to the Lord’s coming. Spiritual clarity in life begins when we receive Christ as Savior, then with each step of obedience we gain clearer vision and stay focused on our future. They are lying on the side of so many roads, left behind by abuse, addiction, imprisonment, loss, famine, disease, violence, tyranny and oppression. There are people who are broken by injustice, stripped of their belongings, dignity, identity and self-worth. As Christians we can show compassion to people who are hurting or in need. We just need to cross the street, stop and stoop, and go out to the weary and scattered and lead them to the Shepherd. #fsbcsermon #fsbccoalinga

Difficulty is the bully that steps into our path and tries to wrestle us to the ground and pin us until we cry “Uncle!” No matter what we are trying to do, if it is worthwhile, the bully will try to outshout both God and our own thoughts until he confuses us. The bully loves to sing about hurdles that have been around since the beginning of time. Isn’t that what Goliath, the Giant bully, was really saying to the Israelites? You’re too small, too weak, too insignificant! David, the young shepherd, had the right perspective about himself and God. He had faith in who God is and who he was. With that perspective he overcame the giant bully in his life. We need to let God take down the bully in our life. #fsbcsermon #fsbccoalinga
